There’s one area of fly fishing that gets vastly overlooked by anglers in favour of the usual nymphing, dry-fly fishing or fishing from a boat, and that’s a shore-based, sight-fishing style approach on any given lake that holds populations of smelt.
As February comes to an end and the days begin to shorten it’s a clear signal to me that it’s time to put down the fly rod, hang up the Goose Caller and begin thinking about big game – in particular, red stags.
