It’s the hunter’s favourite time of the year – the Roar. A couple of mates and I hatched a plan to fly into an area we hadn’t been to before and spend a week hunting red stags. I hadn’t shot a red stag before this trip, so I was keen to get going.
Since the 1920s, each decade has brought about cultural shifts within the New Zealand hunting community. Common reasons for change have been altered legislation, commercial interests (venison recovery), recreational interest and bureaucracy.
