Fresh out of the ER after a rugby accident, I sat on the shore of Lake Whakatipu with a hip-high cast on my leg and a spinning rod in my hand, a black-and-gold Toby tied to the end.
I was born and bred in the Waitākere Ranges, Auckland. My family weren’t into hunting, but we enjoyed fishing, and I spent a lot of my childhood fishing the Manukau Harbour and travelling to the Central North Island for family fishing holidays.
