Spring is here, and with it comes that mix of sunshine, rain and everything in between. The weather might keep us guessing, but the days are getting longer and the spring growth is showing up. I know for me, it’s the start of a season with plenty of trips to be had – whether that’s into the bush, fly-camping in the tops (for us North Islanders anyway), or heading out in the boat for a fish or dive.
This year is racing by and somehow Issue 6 is already in your hands. In this issue, we’ve packed in another great line-up of stories, insights and inspiration to keep you itching to get outdoors. Our cover story takes you deep into Fiordland with Dylan’s account of a wapiti hunt – a true adventure and one well worth the read. Jaydon gives us a detailed rundown of how to brain tan a sheepskin, which is an incredible skill – it’s pretty amazing to read about the process. Trout fishing season is back up and running again, and Matt Butler talks us through how to level up and challenge ourselves this season, while Adrian takes us back in time to talk about the unforgettable memories spent in an Ally collapsible canoe.
The Sika Show is nearing (November 8-9 at Mystery Creek), and we’re excited to be part of it once again. It’s a fantastic opportunity for you to catch up with fellow hunters and anglers, check out the latest gear and, of course, swing by and say hi to the NZRod&Rifle team. We always enjoy meeting readers face to face and hearing your stories. As usual, NZRod&Rifle are running the photo comp – with added age groups for all the keen kids out there – and we’ve seen many great photos coming through. Any of you that are keen to join in on the Roar Comp should start warming up for the day!
Whether you’re out chasing stags, casting a fly or simply soaking up the warmer days, we hope this issue fuels your next adventure.
