The country was officially in a drought – we hadn’t seen any decent rain in the last three months. Typically, 10 days out from our Roar trip, that situation looked like it was about to change in a big way.
It all started in the mid-1970s when I was librarian at Kambubu High School on the coast of equatorial New Britain. That was one of my admin tasks after teaching English classes in the morning.
