The challenge and variation of work in new blocks, spending time with my shooting mates and being my own boss were some of the drivers behind leaving the safety of a full-time job with DOC. In a previous NZFS era, hunters could move from block to block as positions opened up around the country, some staying for 3-4 years before the lure of another area instigated a change and they’d move on.
