We were locked in for a South Canterbury alpine mission – packs dialled, boots oiled, maps marked up. It was all go. Then, the night before we hit the road, a mate tossed a curveball.
The adventure started with the alarm going off at 4:30am on a drizzly Saturday morning – beats a Saturday sleep-in! Despite the forecast, we were up and out the door, truck packed for our drive of over an hour to the hunting spot of choice. Rain jackets were packed and the quad bike was on deck for ease of recovery.
